Cumberland Proclamation Honoring Women’s Suffrage 2020

On August 23, 1920 during the regular session of the Cumberland Mayor and City Council the following resolution was read and approved: "Whereas, the nineteenth or Woman's Suffrage Amendment to the constitution of the United States has apparently been ratified by the State of Tennessee and with the official proclamation thereof will become the law of the land, giving women the right to vote at all national, State and City Elections: Therefore be it resolved that the Mayor and City Council of Cumberland extend to the women of the City a sincere and hearty welcome to direct and active participation in municipal affairs, and the City Attorney is instructed to keep this body fully advised of what, if any steps, relative to registration and any other requirements may be necessary in order to make the nineteenth Amendment effective in Cumberland without delay."

On August 18, 2020 the Cumberland, Maryland Mayor and City Council issued a Proclamation honoring the 100th Anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution giving women the right to vote. Depicted is a copy of that Proclamation, as well as a photograph of Cumberland Mayor Ray Morriss signing the document.
