About
It was not that long ago when the only newspaper positions commonly available to females were that of fashion or women's page editor, and their only bylines appeared in the social section. Today, women constitute a major portion of the Cumberland Times-News editorial staff.
Depicted here during the summer of 2007, clockwise, from the left, are Jennifer Raley, education reporter; Debbie Haan, community editor; Tai Shadrick, county reporter; Tess Hannapel, intern; Daleen Berry, police reporter; Maria Smith, city reporter; and Debbie Meyer, city editor. Other female staff members in professional positions are Liz Beavers, Mineral County (West Virginia) reporter; Sarah Moses, Garrett County reporter; and Mona Ridder, business editor and West Virginia reporter.
