Iron Mountain Roller Girls

The following information, as well as the team skating photograph, is from an article entitled, “Skater: Iron Mountain Roller Girls ‘becomes part of your family’ ” by Teresa McMinn, Cumberland Times-News, August 12, 2019:

The Iron Mountain Roller Girls (roller derby) team was founded in 2000. The team consists of twelve members ranging from 20 to 50 years of age, with five of the team members being veterans from the early years. Members are drawn from the tri-state area from a variety of backgrounds; from law to psychology to an assistant professor of geography at Frostburg State University.

The team practices in the Salvation Army gymnasium in Cumberland, and follows the rules of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), the international governing body of the sport.

Included on their schedule are teams from Hagerstown, Maryland, Morgantown, West Virginia and State College, Pennsylvania.

Active in the community, the Iron Mountain Roller Girls participate in such local events as the Community Pride Festival, as shown here, and also volunteer for such groups as the Vietnam Veterans of America.
