Margareta "Jaye" (Rönnersten) Miller, 1944-2017

The following obituary is excerpted from the Cumberland Times-News, April 16, 2017. It pertains to the prominent local businesswoman, Jaye Miller:

CUMBERLAND — Margareta "Jaye" (Rönnersten) Miller, 73, of Cumberland, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017.
Jaye was born on March 2, 1944, and raised in Stockholm, Sweden. She became interested in cooking at a very young age. She and her mother would spend their Saturday afternoons planning and preparing the family's evening dinner.
After high school, she attended cooking school. From there she worked in a test kitchen, and became friendly with a woman that knew the Swedish Ambassador. In 1964, she came to the United States to work for the Ambassador's family on Embassy Row in Washington, D.C.

She and her first husband later opened Alting Press, a print shop here in Cumberland. Through the print shop, she became acquainted with John Rannells and Bill Miller, the current operators of The Blue Noodle Restaurant in Centerville, Pa., and she was hired in 1979 to be the chef. She later went on to chef at the Bistro Restaurant, JB's Steak Cellar, and the Starving Artist Restaurant in Frederick. In 1992, she along with her second husband, Bill opened the Tivoli Café on Centre St. followed by the Oxford House Restaurant on Greene St. The Oxford House moved to the Downtown Mall and continued to operate with Jaye in charge of the kitchen until 2011. Over the years, she also operated a lucrative catering business which she continued from the Tivoli location, now known as Sammy's until 2016.

She is survived by her husband, Bill and her beloved dog, Sammy; her sister, Maryanne; her nephew, Andreas along with his wife, Karin and their son Axel; her Aunt, Ingrid and her cousin, Lennart and his son.
