Mary E. Murray, 1907 - 2002

Born in Mt. Savage, Mary Murray graduated from Catholic Girls Central High School in Cumberland. She taught for over 48 years at Allegany High School, Frostburg State College, and the Catholic University of America. One of her achievements at Allegany High School was the editing of the Allegany High School Golden Jubilee Magazine 1889 - 1938.

Mary Murray was elected National Regent of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and served two terms from 1978 to 1982. She was awarded the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Medal from Pope Paul VI. Mary also enjoyed several audiences with Pope John Paul II as well as one each with Pope John Paul I and Pope Pius VI. She was also one of only four women among 100 of our nation’s religious leaders selected to meet and luncheon at the White House with President Ronald Reagan.
