CUMBERLAND — Mary M. Robb, 97, of Cumberland, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2015, at The Kensington.

Born Nov. 11, 1917, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Marguerite (Marston) Robb.
Miss Robb was a graduate of Allegany High School. She earned a B.A. degree from Western Maryland College and a Master of Music degree from West Virginia University.

Miss Robb was a public school music teacher in Hagerstown, for two years. The next 30 years were spent in Allegany County. She started as a resource music teacher for grades 1 to 12. Miss Robb then served as music director at Beall High School, Allegany High School, and Fort Hill High School, retiring in 1978. She was elected to the Allegany County Board of Education in November, 1978. Miss Robb served as vice-president in 1979 and president from 1980 to 1982. She retired from the Board in 1986.

Miss Robb was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church, where she served as Music Director for over 40 years. In addition, she taught Sunday School for all ages from nine and up, served as Sunday School Director and Bible School Director, Training Union Directory and various other positions.

She was a charter member of the Cumberland Choral Society, member of the Music and Arts Club, Board of Directors of the Community Concert Association having served as their Secretary, ETA Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Cumberland, and the Women’s Civic Club of Cumberland.

Mary was a devoted daughter, taking care of her mother after her father suddenly passed away when she was teaching in Hagerstown. She enjoyed taking part in her church’s programs and activities. She truly cared about her students and many former students let Mary know they appreciated her.

Mary enjoyed traveling and would be ready to go anytime the opportunity would arise.

Survivors include her cousins, Carolyn Marston Snyder, Rock Hill, S.C., and Miriam Marston Amato, Texas; and a niece, Pam LeJeune, San Antonio, Texas.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015, at 11:30 a.m., with Pastor Keith Aguila and Dr. Bob Davis, officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation for all the care and kindness shown to Mary during her illness by Frances Minke, Sharon Robinson, Janie DeHart, and the staff at The Kensington. They were truly a blessing.
