Matylle Gerson, "Frostburg Angel"
The following article appeared in the Overseas Edition of the Cumberland Sunday Times, July 2, 1944:
Frostburg 'Angel'
Lt. Matylle Gerson, on the right in the picture, is attached to one of the Army's most traveled medical units. She has seen service in the Belgian Congo, Nigeria, the Gold Coast, Liberia, French West Africa, Morocco and Algeria. Now that the invasion of continental Europe is underway through Normandy, Lieutenant Gerson has put in for a transfer to that zone. She is the daughter of the late Myer Gerson, of Frostburg. In the picture she is shown with her cousin, Captain Samuel A. Gerson, a flight surgeon in Italy.
Note: Matylle's father, Myer Gerson, had owned and operated the St. Cloud Hotel on Main Street in Frostburg. Matylle graduated from Beall High School and would be a second cousin to Albert Feldstein, one of the people who partnered in the development of this website.
