Sandra Grandstaff was inducted into the Maryland Senior Citizens Hall of Fame in October 2006. A teacher from Allegany County, Sandy taught from 1961 until her retirement in 1995. Most of these years were spent as a Music Resource Teacher that had her traveling to elementary schools throughout the county.
A resident of Lonaconing, she has long been active in the community in many different ways. She served on Lonaconing's 150th Anniversary Committee which, among other things, compiled and published Lonaconing: Home in the Hills in 1987. As a member of the Georges Creek Promotion Council, Sandra, along with other community members, also played an instrumental role in the raising of $150,000 in funds to match other monies toward the construction of a new George's Creek Regional Library. Located on Main Street in Lonaconing, this library was officially opened on May 5, 2001. Sandy Grandstaff also volunteers in the library's history room, and is a Trustee of the Allegany County Library System.
