Hiring of Eli Swearingen's slaves, Allegany, 1845

The undersigned, as executor of the last will & testament of Eli Swearingen, late of Allegany county, deceased, will sell at public sale, at the late resident of said deceased, about 8 miles north west of the town of Cumberland, immediately on the Potomac river,              

On Monday the 15th of September, inst, all the personal property, of which the said deceased died seized, consisting in part of as follows;—
10 HEAD OF HORSES
amongst them several fine colts and riding cratur[?].
40 HEAD OF CATTLE,
12 of them excellent Milch COWS, a lot of fine Hogs and Shoals,
600 bushels of Wheat,
which will be sold in lots to suit purchasers, about
1,200 BUSHELS OF OATS,
A quantity of Hay, by the ton, about
700 lbs. of Bacon.
together with a large Variety, of
HOUSEHOLD AND KITCHEN FURNITURE-
Such as beds, Bedsteads and Bedding Tables Chairs, 1 Mantle Clock, with many other articles it is deemed unnecessary to enumerate.

Terms of Sale—Nine months credit will be given on all sums above $5, purchasers to give notes, with approved security ; sums of $5 and less cash. The purchasers of the Wheat, however, will be required to pay $300 in cash on the day of sale and will be allowed a credit of 9 months on the residual of the purchase money.

At the same time and place,
Will be rented, to the highest bidder, for the term of two years, all that part of the real estate, of Eli Swearingen, deceased, which was bequeathed by him to J. Scott Swearingen, comprising of one half of the whole tract owned by said Eli Swearingen. The tenant will be required to give bond, with approved security, for the payment of the rent annually. Possession will be given immediately.

Also at the same time and place,
Will be hired, to the highest bidders, for the term of one year, all the SLAVES belonging to the estate of Eli Swearingen, deceased, comprising of FOUR MEN and FOUR WOMEN. Those hiring them will be required to furnish them with suffice clothing and to give approved security for the payment of the hire annually.
