(- Antietam Creek by Funkstown)
Click on the MEDIA ITEMS below for more information
The Hays postcard reads "Old National Pike over Antietam Creek near Hagerstown, Md."
On the bridge is one of the trolleys running between Hagerstown and Funkstown. In 1897 the route of the trolley ran down South Potomac and ended at Watts Park, across the creek from Funkstown. In November 1901 the line was extended using the old stone turnpike bridge across Antietam Creek into Funkstown. This route was continued the following year into Wagner's Crossroads, Mapleville and Boonsboro. In 1904 the route from Wagner's Crossroads was built to Myersville in Frederick County, and the 29 mile trolley route between Frederick and Hagerstown was complete. (Herbert Harwood, 1970)
