Local workers smooth concrete in additions. Click on the MEDIA ITEMS below for more information

Two workers from the L.T Souders company are shown smoothing concrete for the basement floors in the Museum's new 1949 additions. A handwritten sign on the right edge of the photograph identifies the companies involved in the construction process. J.B. Ferguson company was the general contractor, with L.T. Souders working for them.

When the add-ons were proposed, two of the primary needs were expanded room for education and art storage. Accordingly, the two new wings were outfitted with expanded classroom and vault space in the basement. A curator's work room was also added, along with the additional mechanical needs of a larger building.
