Engle's Mill

Accident, Maryland: Engle's Mill Click on the MEDIA ITEMS below for more information

Ephraim Stuck from Listonburg, Pennsylvania came to this area looking for a saw mill site. While crossing a log across Bear Creek, he fell in and found the current quite strong. He decided that the place was an excellent site for a mill. Stuck and two companions cleared some land, built a cabin and in time built an up-and-down saw mill just below the site where Engle's grist mill would one day be erected.

In 1835 Samuel Engle had his grist mill built and equipped with the best machinery of the day.

Ralph Engle sold the property in 1889 to Samuel A. Miller for $3,500. Silas Miller operated the mill until he sold his farm to his half-brother, Henry Miller. Henry operated it until it closed in 1929. The mill was razed during the Second World War.
