Melchoir Miller owned a distillery which produced rye whiskey. The business closed in 1919 with passage of the Volstead Act which ushered in prohibition. The old distillery and the foundation of one of the warehouses were still standing in 1992. The Miller home and large farm are owned by William Aiken, great-grandson of Melchoir Miller.
