About the Author
Anne is a senior at Allegany High School. She is involved in the Mock Trial and Debate teams. She is also an avid tennis player. Anne has been accepted to Duke University.
Erin is a freshman at Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland. A 1998 graduate of Allegany High School, her activities there included Mock Trial, Debate Team, and theatrical productions. Erin was selected to serve as Student Page from Allegany County during the 1998 Maryland General Assembly.
Chris is a senior at Allegany High School. He is actively involved with the Maryland State Championship Band, serving as a percussion captain. Chris is also a member of the Math Team, Mock Trial, and the Ecology Club. Last summer he studied at the Amazon Center for Environment Education and Research in Peru. Chris has applied to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and plans to major in engineering.
Amber is a senior at Allegany High School. She is actively involved in the Maryland State Championship band. Her other pursuits at Allegany include the Math Team, Mock Trial, Debate Team, Show Choir, Tennis team, National Honor Society, and Chemathon Team. Amber also serves as President of the Allegany Ecology Club and teaches Hebrew School at B'er Chayim Temple in Cumberland.
Dan is a native born Allegany County resident. He has taught World History at Allegany High School for the past 20 years. Other oral history projects include the After Victory Symposium, presented at Frostburg State University. Currently he serves as Allegany County Service Learning Fellow.
Mike is a native born Allegany County resident. He was a history teacher and administrator for the Allegany County Board of Education for eleven years. Presently, he serves as Principal for the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services Youth Centers. He served as a presenter for the oral history project, After Victory Symposium. Currently, he and Dan Whetzel serve as co-principal investigators on the upcoming oral history regarding the Allegany County Chapter of the NAACP. Mike Lewis is an Allegany County Service Learning Fellow.
Cover: The colorful labels displayed on the cover were known as 'chop marks'. They were slips of paper packaged with the silk skeins to identify the raw silk producer in Japan.
