From the back of the photograph, part of the Charles McIntyre collection:

This was a Skinner engine that made electricity for the mines and homes. On the other side of the room was a larger engine called Ridgway. Albert McIntyre worked in the power plaint 1939-1940. Had to fire the boiler to make the steam to run these engines. Last time I saw this place, the building all collapsed in. It was abandoned.

They blinked lights at 11:45 pm in the homes and at 12:00 PM the lights were turned off until next morning about 5:00 AM
