John Ayers was a coal miner in the Barton area of George's Creek from 1957 on. He worked first with his father in a deep mine in Potomac Hollow, named Bakertown. He later worked the Ayers Mine.

Mr Ayers has preserved many of the tools of his trade and other professions in a building in his home in Barton. His collection of equiptment is discussed in this interview.
