The transferred deed of the Bank of Boonsboro on North Main Street stated that the site "shall not be occupied by or for any financial or money lending institution ..." To date, this branch of Washington County Free Library has kept that promise: staff does lend all types of library resources but no money.

Renovated in the spring of 1974, the converted bank still welcomes withdrawals and depositors. New accounts are encouraged. The spacious office where the bank president once pondered the monetary morass is now a quiet study room.
