Capt. Paul Boyton

Illustration depicting Capt. Boyton carrying an oar while balancing on a sea creature and engaging in various activites in the water, such as blowing a horn and carrying a rifle.

The New York Times reported on Boyton's performance at Madison Square Garden: He went to work in a brisk, businesslike way and demonstrated in all 10 minutes' time many of the wonderful things which can me accomplished with the aid of his life-saving suit. He paddled about, set sail, fished, shot, signaled a suppositious steamer in the imagery distance, cooked and ate supper, rescued from drowning a small boy who fell into the water, and finally lit his cigar and went to sleep...
