Ruhl Cottage

Mountain Lake Park, Maryland: Cottages Click on the MEDIA ITEMS below for more information

The Ruhl Cottage is a Queen Anne Victorian structure built in 1895 by the Bradford Brothers Planing Mill Company of Oakland for Mrs. Mary F. Walker. It was a gift to her daughter Julia who married John Ruhl of Clarksburg, W. Va., a wholesale grocer. The Ruhls occupied the "Cottage" continuously for the next 82 years.

The elaborate yellow and green colors on the house today are those of the original. This is Queen Anne architecture which most people instantly recognize by its decorative trim-work, scalloped shingles, and wrap-around porch.
