Letter to S. P. Grove re canal boats ( more details)

Waters and Zimmerman to Grove Click on the MEDIA ITEMS below for more information

Alexandria, Feby 6, 1852

Mr. S. P. Grove

Dear Sir

We write to say to you that our canal boats are still for sale. As we bought them in under the Sheriff's sale we can now sell them on time. We will take them for $1000 a piece, $200 cash and balance on time with security. The freighting [?] business this year will be very good as several new coal companies are going into operation. Boats will be greatly in demand. We have no doubt we can make engagements for you to get as much coal to run as you wish. If you are not in want of these boats please let it be known in your neighborhood that they are for sale. We shall be glad to hear from you.

Yrs Truly,
Waters and Zimmerman

Notes:
The document belongs to Patricia Hammond.

The 1850 census shows Benjamin Waters and Neuben Zimmerman of Alexandria as lumber merchants. S. P. Grove of Sharpsburg was listed in both the 1850 and 1860 census as a farmer, (not a coal merchant, as the letter implies).
