In 1895 L. F. Yoder paid the Mountain Lake Park Association the sum of $500 for two lots, #34 and #45, on the corner of G and Cedar Streets. He built a 1 ½ story wood frame summer home there during the same year. The home belonged at one time to Captain James A. Hayden who was a Civil War veteran and the first editor of The Republican Newspaper which has operated in Oakland, Maryland since 1877.
