Quilt Made By Students On Display

A Bicentennial quilt made by a fourth grade class at Cresaptown Elementary School is on display at the Allegany County Library on Washington Street as part of the observance this week of National Library Week.

"Free People, Free Libraries" is the theme for National Library Week. Children from area kindergartens will visit the library this week and Bicentennial bookmarks will be given to all who check out books this week.

The Bicentennial quilt, which was made by children in Mrs. Virginia Davis' fourth grade class, will be on display in the children's room at the library through April 22.

The quilt was made as an art project and each student traced the star design on navy blue polka dot fabric, cut the star out and sewed it together by hand.

The children were assisted by Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Nancy McGowan, student teacher, and Oberlin T. Chaney, principal. The project took about two months and the quilt was on display last week at the Essex Library.
