LONACONING — The new George's Creek Regional Library will hardly be a one dimensional facility.

In addition to the books and other resources the library will house, it will feature an exhibit displaying items of local history.

According to James Klipstein II, a volunteer who has worked closely with the George's Creek Promotion Council and the town, such a display is needed to preserve items of local importance for generations to come. In a recent letter to the Times-News, he likened the library to the police or fire departments in terms of its importance to the community.

"I view the library at Georges Creek as a depository for historical materials," Klipstein said.

"Therefore, it's important for them to be rounded up and put in a safe place for all to see and use."

Mining equipment and military memorabilia are among the items Klipstein said will likely be donated, but he also said he'd "expect anything from A to Z."
