Letter - Hartle to Davis (Hagerstown Morning Herald), 1942

3 December 1942

A Vernon Davis, Esq.
50 East Antietam Street
Hagerstown, Maryland

Dear Mr Davis;

With reference to the request contained in your letter of November 17th, please be advised that it would be difficult, if not impossible, for me to give you a description my headquarters without running a chance of disclosing information to our over-covetous enemies and thereby very probably be instrumental in subjecting my subordinates to a "blitz".

I agree with you that Mr. MacFarland gave you a very good description of the Northern Ireland situation. He, however, can do that without taking the above mentioned risk because of his inimitable way of painting comprehensive pictures with words.

To meet your requirements and my wishes would it not suffice for me to extend my Christmas greetings and Best Wishes for the New Year to the readers of your distinguished paper. I would further appreciate any effort on your part in that direction.

With my very kindest regards to you and our mutual friends, I am,

Most sincerely,

Major General, U.S.A.
