Fire engine contest, Marsh Run, 1905

A crowd gathers for a demonstration by the firemen in Hagerstown for the Firemen's Convention June 1905. In the right of the photograph a stream of water is being shot from a hose. On the left a steam engine pumps water from Marsh Run which is in the stone lined trough in the center of the photos (now part of the park lake). There are several men in uniform, presumably other fire companies, and a man with a drum.

The structure in the background with three stacks is the Hagerstown Railway powerhouse on Summit Avenue, as identified by Randy Anderson. The photographer is probably standing in one of the windows of Hagerstown Leather Company. The location is now a parking lot.
