of the country. We have met with no snow in the south but on our arrival home on the 9th Jan. we find the ground covered with snow. On the same day a considerable snow falls. We find my mother recovering but in a very bad state of mind yet but sensible.

March the 18th 1861
Our winter past has been moderate yet we had some very cold weather.
On the 6 inst. I contracted for the farm owned by Wilm. Trail but was much disappointed by his breaking the contract.
On the 6th inst. brother A. H. Cason & Miss Eliza Parks arrived here from Ga. leaving our friends in that state well. On tuesday following Mar. 12th they with sister M. M. Cason & her babes left Md for the state of Ga.
Some time in February last Miss Catherine Beall, Celia Beall & Sarah E. Stone returned to Md. much pleased with their trip.
I am yet without a farm having been several times deceived by ignorant & deceitful men.
At this time the prospect for a crop of wheat in this country is very good except in some places where the fly is very bad.
Today Mar. 18th 1861 snow is falling rapidly.
Mine and consorts health is very good. My mother is still improving in her mind & body. May the Lord bless her & give her peace, comfort, joy & bring consolation to her heart.
Prayer meetings are kept up yet thursday & Sunday nights.
