lasted untill last thursday. Yesterday evening I went to father's & find all well. I arrived home tonight about 10 o'clock. On last Wednesday I lost one of my best pigs, disease not known.

April 18th 1863
On last monday I spayed 4 of my shotes, two were heavy with pigs. One of those have since died. On tuesday evening the 14th inst. I planted early potatoes & about night sowed about 1/3 of my second tobacco bed but have not been able to do anything at it since the ground being too wet, Wednesday it rained nearly all day. Today (Saturday) I planted some onions, do. seed, and pease although the ground was very wet.

Monday Apr. 20th
Last evening I was over to the school house & heard Rev. Jones (Babtist) preach. This morning I commenced sowing oats although the ground was very wet but before we had seeded a bushel the rain poured down & stopped us.

Monday Apr. 27th 1863
On last Wednesday I commenced sowing oats again, Thursday & friday rain was falling all day. A general complaint amongst the people is the lateness of the season. Peach trees are beginning to bloom some buds are beginning to swell. Today has been bright & warm. I sowed 1 peck of flax seed today and some oats, Last night I heard our junior preacher.

Thursday Apr. 30th
I finished sowing oats yesterday having sowed 10 ½ bu. The ground is very wet yet. I have broken but about 8 acres for corn, commenced gardening this evening but the rain stopped us. My smallest ewe had a fine lamb on last sunday morning. I now have nine lambs.
