1863 Oct. 20th
I finished seeding wheat this evening.

Oct. 23
I finished cutting tobacco yesterday & today.

Oct. 24th
I finished cutting tobacco today.

Oct. 26th
The weather has been quite warm untill yesterday when it became quite cold & frosty.

Monday Nov 2d 1863
On last Saturday Father & sis Lucy came down. Sis intends staying a week. I have nearly finished gathering my potatoes. They turned out poorly. I made a commencement at ploughing for corn this evening.

Saturday Nov. 7th
On thursday last I went to Georgetown to market, returned yesterday while the wind blew very hard. Praise God our health is good.

Monday Nov. 9th 1863
We had a sleight snow squall this morning for the first but the evening is bright & clear.

Tuesday Nov. 10th
We had a cold night last night. A considerable snow storm passed over last night & this morning the ground is white with snow.

Nov. 25th 1863
On friday the 13th inst. I went to Frederick Co. with Sis Lucy & on Saturday the 14th inst. I came home & brought my colt (Bailie) home from Mr. Maxwell’s.
On monday the 23th inst. I commenced teaching school at Cedar Grove schoolhouse. On tuesday the 17th inst. Father took his sheep & cattle home. He gave me three sheep for pasturing his this summer. On thursday the 19th inst. I went cut to Demascus & bought a pair of small oxen & a cart from Latimore T. Hilton giving my note for fifty seven dollars & fifty cents for them. I have ploughed but very little yet I have no corn in.
