today & commenced another. The last of the snow disappeared last week since which time we have had some good weather. The ground has become in good order for ploughing, so we made a start at ploughing this morning for corn.
My old sow farrowed 10 pigs on the 21th of February & before I found it out 5 of them died with cold. She afterwards overlaid one so that I have now but four.

April 5th 1865
Last friday the 31th ult. it was my last day at school for last winter term. I commenced sowing oats today. I have not ploughed but about 2 acres yet for corn. Mr. Maxwell came down on last Thursday. He returned on Saturday in company with the boys Jimmie & Hollie.

April the 29th 1864 [5?]
I finished sewing oats on last monday the 24th. inst. Have sewed about 20 bu. We done our first gardening on last monday the 24th inst. I have had very good luck with my lambs thus far. I now have 17, have lost two. Mr. Maxwell came down on Wednesday last the 26th and brought me the mare which we got from Mrs. Frank for which I paid him $75.00.

Apr. 14th 1865 President Lincoln was assassinated at Ford's Theater Washington D. C. Lee had surrendered to Grant on the 9th of April 1865.

May the 18th 1865
I planted corn at the barn on the inst., commenced a piece of 8 acres in the barn field, on the 5th inst. & on the 6th at noon rainy weather set in so that I could not finish it untill noon on the 16th inst. I commenced breaking another piece the day before
