Camp Carroll
Baltimore, May 10, 1862

Dear Sir

Do for God sake see the President & get at least my company away from here.
Gen Shields wants more cavalry. He has sent me word that he wants the companies that formerly belonged to "Lamons Brigade."

Our Major, the only real man in the regiment of officers is now under arrest. I am completely discouraged. So are my men. Now the president can send us away where we can be of some use. For the sake of old friendship, for the sale of the men who enlisted because you were promised as a leader and general, for these, beg the president to send us back to Gen. Shields.

Most sincerely
Your obt. Servt
C. H. Russell
