“Wounded.—

We regret to learn that Mr. Benjamin Garver, a loyal, and very respectable citizen of the Ringgold (Md.) District, was shot by a drunken soldier one evening last week. Report says that Mr. G. was on the road between that place and Leitersburg, when he came upon a couple of soldiers, who demanded his horse, and on his refusing to accede, to their request, one of the party drew a pistol and tired at him, the ball taking effect in his thigh, but fortunately inflicting only a slight flesh wound. They were doubtless deserters.”— Waynesboro Record.

We have heard of several similar outrages, which have recently been perpetrated within the limits of this county, but we do not believe that the guilty parties were soldiers, or had any connection whatever with the army, although they may have been clad in uniforms. There is little doubt that the county is infested with horse-thieves, and that these, like their prototype of the sulphuric regions, assume the “ livery of Heaven to serve the Devil in." It is an easy matter for a horse-thief to procure a uniform, and palm himself off as a soldier, and that this has been done and horses “ impressed ” or stolen under this false garb cannot be doubted.
