Sick and Wounded Soldiers.

—-A very large number of sick and wounded soldiers were brought to this town last week from the various Hospitals in the lower part of the county, the forward movements of the different Army corps having rendered the removal necessary. They occupy the Courthouse, Lyceum and Female Seminary to the number of sir or eight hundred, and exhibit almost every form of disease and suffering. As soon as it became known that they were here the good Union ladies of the town, with their accustomed promptitude and benevolence, rallied to their relief, and could be seen wending their way to the several Hospitals with pails of tea and coffee, and well-filled baskets of suitable provisions for suffering humanity. But for the timely relief which the ladies, blessed “Angels of Mercy,” extended to these afflicted defenders of our glorious country, it is believed that in some cases the pangs of hunger would have been added to other sufferings. Ever since the commencement of the war, we have had more or less of sick and wounded soldiers in our midst, and never, can it be said with truth, has one been intentionally neglected by the Union ladies of the town, although their energies, their resources and benevolence have been severely taxed.
