August 5 1863 - recruitment for Knode's cavalry

Click on the MEDIA ITEMS below for more information

Capt. Knode’s Cavalry Company.—

We understand that the Cavalry Company, which Capt. John G. Knode, of this town, and Lieut. Irwin, of Boonsboro’, are engaged in raising, already numbers between sixty and seventy men.— An addition of a few members will enable them to organize, and prepare to take the field, and these will no doubt be speedily obtained. This county has filled and even exceeded its quotas under all previous calls for troops by volunteering, and we are confident that a little effort on the part of its loyal citizens will enable it to fill its quota under the late call in the same patriotic manner, and thus we would point with pride to the fact that we have not a single conscript in the army from this county, but have spontaneously met every requisition of our National Authorities for soldiers to defend the life of the nation.
