And Whereas, This great national bereavement carries gloom and sorrow into every loyal household.

Be it therefore resolved by the County Commissioners of Washington County, that we share in the common grief that pervades our distracted yet beloved country in this her direst calamity, and whilst we would not fathom the inscrutable wisdom of Providence, we humbly bow to his stern decree.

Resolved, That though sorely stricken, we sorrow not as those having no hope, but turn to our present Chief executive Andrew Johnson, whose wisdom and patriotism commend him to our implicit confidence and support.

Resolved. That the foregoing preamble and resolutions be entered upon the minutes of the Board, and published in the Herald and Torch, and Boonsboro’ Odd Fellow.
