Letter from Gen Meade to a Refugee.

Miss Amelia Furr, a refugee from the Valley of Virginia, who supports herself by the sale of Union songs, which she writes, some time since sent a copy of one descriptive of his success at Gettysburg, to Gen. MEADE. In acknowledgment of the letter containing the verses, she has received the following reply. It shows his heart to be as kind as his soul is brave

Headquarters Army of the Potomac,
March 1st, 1865

My DEAR MISS FURR;
I am very much gratified at receiving your kind letter of the 19th ultimo., with the complimentary verses enclosed. To be thus honored and distinguished by my fair countrywomen is ample reward for all the labors and sacrifices I have endured, and such acts of generous sympathy will serve to excite me to greater exertions to bring this war to a speedy and honorable close.

I regret deeply to learn yon have been compelled to abandon your home, and that you have suffered in health. I trust it will not be long before you can return to your home, and that a merciful God, in restoring you to its joys and comforts, will grant you renewed health to enjoy them.

With sentiments of sympathy and respect, I remain, Most truly yours,

GEO. G. MEADE,
Maj. Gen. U S. A.

Miss Amelia Furr,
Hagerstown, Md.
