Carmen B. Jackson, NAACP President

The following biography appeared in the program booklet that was distributed at the Lifetime Achievement Awards event held on May 21, 2016 by the Allegany County, Maryland NAACP Branch 7007. Carmen B. Jackson, as of this writing, serves as the NAACP Branch President:

"Carmen S. Bryant was born in Chicago Illinois as the daughter of Mrs. Clory L. Bryant and the late Samuel L. Bryant. Carmen Bryant Jackson is a graduate of Illinois State University in Normal, Ill. where she earned an undergraduate degree in Comprehensive Social Science in Secondary Education and a Master of Science degree in Guidance and Counseling. In 1975 she began working at Frostburg State University in the Residence Life Office as Assistant Director. After eight years she was promoted to Director of Residence Life and served in that capacity for 15 years. In 1998 she was promoted to Assistant to the Vice President of Student and Educational Services and Director of the Diversity Center. She served in that capacity until her retirement in 2003.

Married to Lance Jackson, Sr. since August 26, 1977, they are the parents of two children, Lance B. Jackson, Jr. and Clory C. Jackson. Carmen was a member of professional organizations such as the Mid-Atlantic Association of College and University Housing Officers; the Association of College and University Housing Officers; the National Association of Black Social Workers and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators.

She has been extremely busy in her church and local community serving as Chairperson for the Allegany and Garrett Counties Foster Care Review Board for the past 20 plus years; member of the Allegany County Board of Education Multi Cultural Committee, under the leadership of Mary Louise Jones; member of the Allegany County Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People; a Afro-American Family and Community Services Founding Board Member in Chicago; Board member of the Long Stretch Youth Home-Residential camp; and a member of Community Unity in Action. Additionally, she is founder of the the M.A.P. (Motivation and Academic Preparation) Summer Camp for local youth and a co-founder of the 'Sister-to-Sister' Mentoring group for girls.

As an active member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where Bishop John B. McIntyre, Sr. served as senior pastor she has served as Church Secretary, Choir member, Administrative Assistant to the Pastor and served as the first female Chairperson of the Trustee Board. Presently she and her husband are active members of the First Church of God in Christ in Piedmont, WV.
