Lauren Francillon and Micah Wormack, Basketball

Lauren Francillon of Southern High School in Garrett County and Micah Wormack of Allegany High School in Allegany County both graduated in 2016. Both had exceptionally fine and record-breaking careers and are going onto college to continue their education. The following information is excerpted from two articles written by Chris Appel appearing in the June 18, 2016 edition of the Cumberland Times-News:

Lauren Francillon has been on a higher level than most of her competition during her basketball career at Southern High School. Now the two-time Times-News Player of the Year is moving on to the highest collegiate level by agreeing to play for Division I Fairleigh Dickinson University in Hackensack, New Jersey……

In her four years at Southern, Francillon won four Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference titles, four Maryland 1A West Section titles, four 1A West Region titles and four Times-News Area Championships. She was named to three All-AMAC first teams — the last two spent as the conference’s player of the year — and was first-team All-Area the past two seasons while being named the area’s player of the year. The Maryland Basketball Coaches’ Association listed her on the Maryland 1A/2A All-State First Team this past season after listing her to the second team as a junior…..

Fairleigh Dickinson University, founded in 1942, is the largest private university in New Jersey with more than 12,000 students, and was named one of the best colleges in the North Region by U.S. News & World Report. Francillon is planning on majoring in accounting while there.”

Micah Wormack comes off a season of shattering records and putting together one of the finest years in the history of Allegany basketball by becoming the school’s leader in single-game and single-season scoring, and moving into first place all-time in rebounds. Now she has a completely new set of records to start chipping away at after accepting a scholarship to play for the University of New Haven, a Division II school in Connecticut 90 minutes from New York City……

Wormack owns every rebounding record at Allegany with 1,1106 for a career, 375 this last season with a single-game mark of 33 coming against Frankfort. She finishes her career with the Campers with 1,484 points (second all-time), and set the record for points in a season (566) and a game (43). She also finishes with 251 steals, good for third all-time. She was voted to the All-Appalachian Mountain Athletic Team and All-Area First Team in each of the last three seasons. The University of New Haven is a private school located in West Haven, Connecticut along the Long Island Sound. It has an undergraduate enrollment of 4,800 students. The Chargers play in the Northeast-10 Conference.”
