The attached document was transcribed from The Cumberland Alleganian & Daily Times, a newspaper of Cumberland, Md., for the year 1876. The newspaper account provides insight into life on the Canal in 1876, even though every edition of the newspaper was not found, and of those which were found, not all included an article on the Canal or information on canal traffic.
