Ken Barnes, 1954 -
In 2009 Kenneth Barnes was named Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cumberland's Riverside YMCA. In the 125 year history of the Cumberland YMCA, Ken Barnes is the first African-American to be selected for the local YMCA's top leadership position.
Ken Barnes is a 1979 graduate of Morehouse College. Originally known as Augusta Institute and founded in 1867, the Atlanta, Georgia based school's original purpose was to prepare African-American men for the ministry and teaching. Among its graduates are Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Shelton "Spike" Lee. Upon receiving his B.A. Degree in Sports Studies and Physical Education, Ken Barnes would also later taken classes in the MBA program at the University of Texas.
Prior to coming to Cumberland Ken Barnes had served as the Interim CEO of the Greater Daytona Beach Area YMCA Association and was also on the Board of Directors of the Daytona Beach and Halifax Area Chamber of Commerce.
