Cumberland, MD – Reverend Alfred Deas, Jr., 69, of Cumberland, MD, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2019, Ruby Hospital, Morgantown, WV.
Born November 9, 1949, in Wilmington, NC, Reverend Deas, Jr., was the son of the late Alfred Deas, Sr., and Eula Mae (Canty) Deas. He was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law: Sie Shanks.
A graduate of North Carolina State University, Alfred was a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Army with 24 years of service. He was a member of the Ministerial Staff at the Ebenezer A.M.E. Church, Fort Washington, MD, and was called to Pastor the Metropolitan A.M.E. Church, Cumberland, MD for 15 years. In 2016, Reverend Deas, Jr., founded the Ministry of Encouragement in Maryland.
Alfred is survived by his wife of 45 years: Carrie Deas; and his children: Brandon Deas and wife, Laura, Alexandria, VA; Radiah Washington and husband, Charles, Sr., Waldorf, MD; Ryan Deas and wife, Angela, Syracuse, NY; and Trenton Deas and wife, Troie, Cumberland, MD. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Kelsea, Treston, Rheyna, Raniya, Ryleigh, Charles, Jr., Kayla, R.J., Andrew, Andrea, Lydia, Royce, Khouri, and one on the way. Alfred is also survived by his brothers: Major McFadden; and James Deas and wife, Ruth; his brothers-in-law: Willie Holmes and wife, Diane; Melvin Shanks and wife, Gloria; and Walter Shanks and wife, Sheena; his sisters-in-law: Stella Pulliam and husband, Chuck; Mary Cobb and husband, Noah; and LaWanda Keys; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends will be received at the Central Assembly of God Church, 2020 Bedford Street, Cumberland, MD, on Saturday, February 23, 2019, from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. A Home Going Celebration will follow at 12:00 Noon.
Military honors will accorded at the church by the Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard.
