Geraldine Biggie Jackson, 79, of 30 McCulloh St., Frostburg, died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at her residence. Born Nov. 29, 1922, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Mary (Cole) Washington Edwards. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Jackson; five sisters, Mary Harper, Kathleen Martin, Alma Mason, Anna Paige, and Alistine Spriggs; and one brother, Alex Washington.

Kerry Eugene Harper Jr., 31, of Cumberland, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2004, at the WMHS Memorial Campus Hospital.

Born Aug. 25, 1972, in Cumberland, he was the son of Robert and Pamela Peck and Kerry (Butter) Harper, Fredericksburg, Va., a stepmother, Yvonne (Poole) Harper, Fredericksburg. Mr. Harper was preceded in death by his beloved maternal grandmother, Dorothy Lee Redman; and a father-in-law, Michael Dennis Smith.

Clarence W. Hall [Frostburg]

FROSTBURG - Clarence William Hall, 69, of Frostburg, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at the WMHS-Braddock Campus.

Born May 2, 1939, in Frostburg he was the son of the late William and Georgiann (Edmondson) Hall of Frostburg.

Clarence attended Carver High School in Cumberland and then transferred and graduated from Beall High School in 1957.

— PIEDMONT, W.Va. — James Evers “Ebbie” Gilmore Sr., 72, of Piedmont was called to Glory on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at The Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland, Md.

Born Nov. 9, 1937 in Piedmont, he was the son of the late Evers Solomon and Mary Elizabeth Gilmore. His sister, Rose Marie also preceded him in death.

Robert B. Gates, 90, Cumberland died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002 at the Allegany County Nursing Home.

Born Sept. 25, 1911, at Patterson Creek, W.Va., he was the son of the late Edward L. and Helen (Redman) Gates. He was also preceded in death by four brothers Edward E., Lawrence, Elmore, and Fred Gates. For many years, Mr. Gates was employed by the S.T. Little Jewelry Store and later at Fort Cumberland Hotel.

Jane Paige Gates, 73, of Cumberland, passed away on Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at her residence.

Born Nov. 8, 1930, Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Julian Gates Sr., and Sylvia Virginia (Stephens) Gates. Miss Gates was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence J. Gates Jr. and Bruce E. Gates; a sister, Carolyn V. Nimmons; and a niece, Tammi N. Allen, whom she helped rear.

— WAYNE, N.J. — Henry Louis Gates Sr., 97, formerly a resident of Cumberland and Piedmont, W.Va., died peacefully on Christmas Eve, 2010, in Wayne, at home with his family gathered at his bedside. After living in Lexington, Mass., following the death of his wife, Mr. Gates had resided for the past several years at the home of his older son, Dr. Paul Gates.

She played a major role in providing photographs, historical background information, and other resources critical to the successful completion of this Allegany County African-American History website. My wife and I were privileged to have met and talked with her several times while she was visiting the family homestead on Greene Street
