Body
Chesapeake and Ohio Canal.
The Washington Star learns that there is some hope now that the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal may be rendered navigable again for the fall trade. It is found that the damage done by the Confederate forces was not so great as had been apprehended, the injury being mostly in cutting down embankments at such points as was necessary for the passage of their trains and artillery, and by which, as the water flowed out, of course enlarged the breaks. It is not believed now that any important culvert was destroyed, and therefore the repairs may be easily made if the line is kept free of the enemy.
