The Potomac River, C&O Canal, Western Maryland Railroad.

There is a boat locking through at Lock 55, as it heads towards Cumberland. Note the people at both ends of the boat.

In the bottom left hand corner is the guard wall for Dam 6.

This guard lock at Dam 5 was used as a means for canal boats to move between the Potomac River and the canal. It was also used to guard the canal from high water during freshets along the Potomac River.

This photograph shows the wall of Dam 5, the basin below the lock, and the upper gate of the guard lock is closed.
