Women's Equality Day - Garrett County

On August 28, 2021 a Women’s Equality Day Celebration was held at Sang Run State Park in McHenry, Maryland in Garrett County. The event was held to commemorate the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which granted women the right to vote in 1920. Along with the American Association of University Women-Garrett Branch which sponsored a series of historic women’s monologues, the event was also sponsored by the Civic Club of Oakland, Garrett County Commission on Women, Youghiogheny Glades Chapter National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Maryland Park Service, Garrett County Democratic Women and the Garrett County Republican Women’s Club. Elected officials in attendance included State Senator George Edwards, Delegate Mike McKay and Garrett County Commissioner Paul Edwards. Along with the monologues and various exhibits the event featured a reenactment of an historic suffragist march which was held through Garrett County in June 1914.
